I began my higher education by attending SUNY Geneseo and collaborating with intelligent and goal-oriented students and staff. I received my Bachelor of Arts Degree in English with a concentration in Secondary Education at SUNY Geneseo, graduating in 2008. I had the opportunity to work as an editor for the college literary magazine as well as get poetry published in the magazine. I made the Dean's List from 2004-2008 and participated in various Honor Societies, including: Phi Eta Sigma National honor Society, Sigma Tau Delta International English Honor Society, Kappa Delta Pi Honor Society, and Golden Key National Honor Society. Additionally. I made the SUNYAC Commissioner's list and the Commissioner's All-Academic Team for soccer. At Geneseo, I had the opportunity to play on the SUNY Geneseo soccer team for all four years and travel abroad to Brazil to work at soccer conventions with kids of all ages. My experiences at SUNY Geneseo helped shape my outlook on life and have helped me grow as an individual and teacher.

While I was working full time, I continued my higher education at SUNY Stony Brook where I received my Graduate Degree with a Masters in Liberal Studies, graduating in 2011. Within my studies at SUNY Stony Brook I worked with professors who had a multitude of knowledge pouring out of them. It was in Graduate school that I received the book Critical
Encounters in High School English: Teaching Literary Theory to Adolescents by Deborah
Appleman from which I base my Book Club Units on today. Brain-based strategies, Adolescent literature studies, Shakespeare, Teaching Students from All Economic Status', etc. were classes that have continued to help me thrive as an empathetic, open-minded educator.
