ELA Exam Test Preparation
The ELA exam tests not only reading and writing skills, but it also examines students' stamina! Throughout the year with the 7th graders, I practice the necessary skills that must continue to be developed as readers, writers, listeners, and speakers. I make sure to examine the previous ELA exams, so I can appropriately word questions in the same manner as the test. This way students will feel more comfortable and be less confused. In addition, I use the common core modules to help plan the units for this course. In order to work on students' test-taking stamina, as the year goes on, the amount of work increases, and if I am timing students in class to do a specific procedure, I make sure they are keeping focused the entire time. Below are sample worksheets that help students prepare the skills necessary to succeed in answering short response questions found on the ELA exam.
